Biotechnology
(Courses
as per UGC guidelines/ HNB garhwal university)
Duration:
3 yrs
Eligibility:
10+2 with min. 45% marks in aggregate or 50% marks in PCB.
Admission
through test to be conducted by the college.
Course
contents: the prescribed course contents is as per the
H.N.B garhwal university. The curriculum involves the study of subjects
of
biology
i.e. zoology, botany and chemistry. The course is enriched by the
basic study of subjects like biochemistry, biophysics, microbiology,
molecular
biology, genetic engineering, plants & animal biotechnology,
environmental & industrial biotechnology and various other advanced
techniques.
The
advantage of studing this course is that the candidate can further
pursue higher studies (masters level) in specialized field of sciences
i.e
biotechnology, microbiology, biochemistry or molecular biology etc.
The
candidates have an option for furtherance of heir studies in any
discipline for their masters degree in fundamental sciences. This
dual/
Degree-Diploma
programme has been inculcates in the stream of education with a
view of opening simultaneous avenues for students doing
graduation
in sciences to have an exposure of bio-technology. Biotechnology
is expected not only to exert significant effects on human and
animal
food, energy and chemicals, waste & pollution treatment, veterinary
& medical care, crops & minerals but even to create entirely
new
industries in distant fuure. Career advancement planning takes shape
at the graduation level itself and it is a normal phenomenon that
generally
after graduation an individual plans for masters in different stream
of life sciences and allied sciences. The individual plans three
years
in advance his future course of study and so on the research activities
in the field of biotechnology.
SCOPE
On
passing the course the candidates can be appointed as managers in
production & can handle the sales/marketing as executives in
companies
manufacturing, microbiological media/ diagnostic bib or biotechnological
products. The knowledge of fundamentals of
biotechnology
will be an asset for their performance. The candidate can also go
for masters in business administration (biotechnology). This
will
further strengthen their managing acumen in biotechnology and related
industries.
The
candidate after passing this course can also opt for bachelor’s
in law (IPR & Biotechnology) which is a highly specialized professional
and
after the advent of IPR laws in present global scenario this will
be a most sought out job. The degree with an integrated approach
like
this
will be an added advantage for
the candidate.
The
candidate has a bright future as biotechnology in an upcoming field
in the Indian industrial scenario.

Eligibility:
10+2 pattern with min. 45% marks PCB/PCM.
Admission
through test to be conducted by the college.
Basic
principles of microbiology including study of microscopic organisms
(bacteria, viruses, protozoa, algae and fungi), the isolation,
cultivation
and identification of microbes, host-parasite relationships as they
relate to disease, microbial and molecular genetics, growth
and
control of microbes, and the human immune response to microbes.
Limited to students in the joint program in industrial microbiology
or
the
joint program in environmental science and technology.
An
introduction through theory, lab, and field work to microorganisms
of importance to the food and dairy industries. Quality control
of raw
materials
and finished products, microbial metabolism, food and drug regulations
and guidelines, theory of good manufacturing practice for
food
manufacturers and hazard analysis and critical control point programs
(HACCP). Limited to students in the joint program in industrial
microbiology.
Practical
experience in locating, collecting and interpreting scientific information
for the purpose of designing laboratory procedures.
Students
work individually under faculty supervision in a lab setting to
perform the laboratory procedures and record the results and present
a
formal report.
Microbiology
is a research oriented field; hence people willing to study microbiology
must have scientific temper, research aptitude, keen
observation,
preservance and hard work. Group working skills are required.
SCOPE
